I was in the middle of a multimillion-dollar boardroom presentation when my six-year-old son called

A father waits anxiously in the hospital while his young children recover, haunted by questions about their mother Sarah and a mysterious warning to their son. The story ends on a cliffhanger as an unknown message hints that more secrets are about to be revealed.

As I sat in the hospital waiting room, Ethan curled up beside me, I couldn’t shake the overwhelming concern for Emma’s health and the haunting words Ethan had whispered to me. “Mommy told me not to call you.” It was a mystery that loomed heavily over us, casting shadows on every thought about what might have happened.

Ethan was quiet, his small frame leaning against me, seeking comfort. I ran my fingers gently through his hair, trying to reassure him—and myself—that everything would be okay. But inside, my mind raced with questions. Why would Sarah tell Ethan not to call me? What had happened to make her leave them alone like that?

My phone buzzed, breaking the silence. It was a message from my assistant, Sarah, asking if everything was alright. I replied with a brief explanation, my focus still on the immediate concern for my children.

A few moments later, a doctor approached us. “Mr. Johnson?” he asked, looking at me with a kind but serious expression.

I stood up, my heart pounding. “Yes, how is Emma?”

“She’s stable now,” the doctor assured me. “She was severely dehydrated and had a high fever, but we’ve managed to bring it down. She’s resting now, and you can see her soon.”

Relief washed over me like a wave, but it was quickly followed by a resurgence of worry. “Thank you,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. “And Ethan? Is he okay?”

The doctor nodded. “He seems to be fine physically, but we’ll make sure he’s checked over too.”

After what felt like an eternity, we were allowed to see Emma. She was lying in a hospital bed, looking so small and vulnerable. But as I sat next to her, I could see the color slowly returning to her cheeks. Ethan climbed up onto the bed and held her hand, never letting go.

Watching them together, I felt an overwhelming sense of determination. I needed to find out what had happened to Sarah, but my priority was ensuring the safety and well-being of my children. They needed me now more than ever.

I spent the next few days at the hospital with them, refusing to leave their side. Slowly, Emma regained her strength, and Ethan started to smile again. But the question of Sarah’s whereabouts and her strange instructions to Ethan never left my mind.

As Emma slept peacefully one evening, I stepped outside the hospital room to gather my thoughts. I needed to talk to the police, to try and find Sarah and get some answers. But I also knew that confronting whatever secret Sarah had been keeping would be difficult.

Just then, my phone buzzed again. This time it was a message from an unknown number. It read: “We need to talk about Sarah. Call me when you can.”

I stared at the message, my heart pounding. Who could it be? And what did they know about Sarah?

Before I could respond, Ethan peeked out from the hospital room, looking for me. I quickly put the phone away and returned to my children. They were my priority, and everything else would have to wait.

As I sat back down, Ethan looked up at me with curious eyes. “Daddy, what’s going to happen now?”

I smiled reassuringly. “We’ll figure it out together, buddy. And don’t worry, I’ll make sure we’re all safe.”

But deep down, I knew that the journey to uncover the truth was only just beginning. There were more secrets to be revealed, and I had to be ready for whatever lay ahead.
