4:30 a.m.—My husband came home at last. I was by myself, cradling our two-month-old baby
The narrator discovers evidence linking Ryan’s hidden dealings to Calloway Holdings and, with Mrs. Parker’s help, begins gathering proof. She leaves determined to fight for her son and expose the truth, with the story set to continue in a part 3.
“Calloway Holdings.”
The name stared back at me, stark and undeniable. My heart quickened, a drumbeat of realization echoing in my chest. Ryan wasn’t just dismissing me; he was hiding something—something big.
Mrs. Parker leaned in, peering at the screen. “Well, what do we have here?”
I scanned through the documents, my fingers moving quickly over the trackpad. Each scroll and click revealed more layers, more connections, more lies. The shell companies were not just stagnant shells; they were active, moving funds in and out, and they were all linked to Calloway Holdings. It was as if an invisible hand was pulling strings, weaving a web of deceit that Ryan had underestimated me enough to believe I wouldn’t see.
I shouldn’t have still had read-only access to Silverline’s files, but sometimes things get overlooked. And sometimes, people rely too much on underestimating others.
“Can you prove any of this?” Mrs. Parker asked, her voice low but steady.
“Absolutely,” I replied, confidence blooming from a place I thought had long since withered. “These documents—these transactions—they’re all connected. If I can trace the funds back to Calloway Holdings, it’ll show a pattern. A pattern they can’t deny.”
Mrs. Parker smiled, a rare and genuine expression, full of pride and resolve. “Then that’s our next step. But you need to keep this quiet until you’re ready.”

We spent the next few hours making copies, securing evidence, and outlining the beginnings of a case. Every document, every figure, every email was like a puzzle piece, slowly forming a bigger picture. The baby slept peacefully, oblivious to the quiet storm gathering around him.
By early afternoon, the sun was high in the sky, casting warm beams through the kitchen window. I felt exhaustion tugging at me, but it was a good kind of tired—the kind that comes from making progress, from knowing you’re on the right path.
Before I left Mrs. Parker’s house, I looked at her, my gratitude unspoken but deeply felt. She had been more than a mentor; she had been a lifeline.
“You know,” she said, her hand resting lightly on my shoulder, “this won’t be easy. Ryan and his family—they won’t let this go without a fight.”
I nodded, understanding the road ahead was fraught with challenges. “I know. But this is just the beginning.”
As I drove away, my son cooing softly in the back seat, I felt a strength I hadn’t known I possessed. I wasn’t just fighting for myself anymore; I was fighting for him, for a future where he would know his mother stood her ground.
The Calloways might have thought the story ended with my leaving, but they were wrong. This was just the second chapter, and the truth was still waiting to be told, uncovered, and brought to light.
